Great Big Green Harvest Festival at Stoneygate Baptist Church

We recently received this encouraging story from Stoneygate Baptist Church in Leicester who held their first Great Big Green Harvest Festival, to link in with Great Big Green Week.

On Sunday 2 October, here at Stoneygate Baptist Church in Leicester, we held our second Great Big Green Harvest Festival. Our harvest service was followed by an eco fair, with local climate action groups coming along to tell us about some of their campaigns, and a community interest company which works around nature and wellbeing offering some mindful and creative activities. Members of the congregation ran stalls offering homemade and homegrown goods plus secondhand books in exchange for donations to Christian Aid's East Africa Hunger Crisis Appeal, and there was an 'ABC of thanks' display from our Messy Church with another board sharing our plans for a community growing space in the church garden. We borrowed some equipment from the local litter wombles and sent a group out to collect rubbish from the streets around the church, with a few clearly catching the wombling bug. The event may not have attracted as many folk as we might have hoped for, but it was a lovely atmosphere and small things have a way of growing.
