Safeguarding Advisers

Alan Davies and Helen Parker are our EMBA Safeguarding Advisers, who manage the Association safeguarding cases in conjunction with the Regional Ministers, who provide pastoral support to churches.

Mr Alan Davies

Alan trained as a social worker/probation officer in 1973 and practiced as a probation officer in Nottinghamshire for 13 years.  He then moved to a post with the NSPCC as a child protection officer where he spent 9 years following this up with 20 years working for the NHS as a clinician in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.  As well as assessing and treating the children referred to the out-patient clinic as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Alan was responsible for a specialism working with children whose sexual behaviour had caused concerns.  He continued working part-time after retirement finally leaving his position in 2015 by which time his clientele was largely drawn from a children’s secure unit.

Mrs Helen Parker

Helen has lived in North Lincolnshire since 1996 and worshipped at Scunthorpe Baptist Church since moving into the area.  Helen helped to run the toddler group and thereafter became a youth leader.  She has also run a house group and since 2010 has been the Designated Person for Safeguarding (DPS).  Helen’s day jobs have evolved since 1997.  She has worked for the local authority since this date in various roles but all involving working directly with or supporting children, young people and vulnerable adults.  Helen is currently the Safeguarding Education Officer for North Lincolnshire Council which involves supporting all schools, colleges and Alternative Provisions in their Safeguarding duties; this also involves being a decision maker at the ‘front door’ of referrals into Social Care.
